Salt & sugar reduction
Cut sodium and sugar without the off-notes: Sensalt and Sensugar.
HFSS legislation, the soft-drinks levy and category-wide reformulation pressure are pulling sodium and sugar targets down faster than commodity ingredients can follow. Sensalt and Sensugar are Uren's branded answer: formulated in-house, label-friendly, and pilot-validated in real recipes including a beef lasagne base at our Neston Innovation Kitchen.
-
Sodium reductionSensalt
−25% sodium
No KCl, no metallic notes, no clean-label trade-offs. Pilot-validated in a beef lasagne base: 820 mg → 615 mg sodium per 100g.

Natural butter flavours
Big butter taste. Less butter. Smarter formulations.
Volatile dairy pricing and reformulation pressure are pushing manufacturers to do more with less. Uren's natural butter flavours protect the indulgent buttery character consumers expect, while cutting fat, butter inclusion and recipe cost across bakery, spreads, sauces and savoury systems.
-
Sweet butter
Creamy, lightly sweet, clean rounded dairy note. Lifts cakes, muffins and sweet bakery.

Rich butter
Deeper, more indulgent, enhanced richness. For luxurious butter impact where depth really matters.

FAQ
Flavour FAQs.
Ten questions UK NPD, technical and supply teams ask before sending the first brief.
What's the difference between natural and nature-identical flavours?
Natural flavours are derived directly from plant or animal sources using physical, enzymatic or microbiological processes. Nature-identical flavours are chemically the same molecule, produced synthetically. For UK labelling, "natural flavouring" requires at least 95% of the flavouring component to come from the named source. Uren supplies both. We default to natural where the label claim, cost-in-use and sensory profile support it, and recommend nature-identical when one of those three constraints needs to give.
What flavour formats does Uren supply?
Three primary formats: liquid (water- and oil-soluble), powder (spray-dried and plated) and granules. Paste, emulsion and full flavour systems are available within specific applications. We match the format to your process (HTST, retort, blast bake, cold-fill) rather than the other way around.
What's the minimum order quantity?
Samples ship from 250g and pilot batches from 1 kg. Production MOQs vary by family: most liquids and pastes start at 25 kg, powders from 100 kg, full flavour systems from 250 kg. We'll confirm at sample stage so there are no surprises at scale-up.
How quickly can Uren turn around a flavour sample?
Standard portfolio samples (anything from our 100+ named Uren house flavours) normally ship the next working day. Aromatech-sourced samples from the wider 15,000+ pool typically follow within 2 to 3 working days from brief approval. Bespoke samples take 5 to 10 working days for a first shot, with one or two iterations included before pilot.
What regulatory and labelling support do you provide?
Full specifications, allergen declarations, organic and Halal/Kosher status on file. Our technical team supports HFSS reformulation submissions, naturalness claims, country-of-origin questions and label-side reviews. We don't bill for the first round of regulatory support; it's part of how we work.
Can Uren develop a bespoke flavour to a brief?
Yes. Bespoke development is a third of our flavour book. Brief us with the matrix (pH, brix, fat, process), the target sensory profile and any label or cost-in-use constraints. We'll bench a first shot, run a small sensory panel internally, and ship samples for your team. Most bespoke briefs reach pilot in 4 to 6 weeks.
What's Uren's approach to salt and sugar reduction?
Branded as Sensalt (−25% sodium) and Sensugar (−25% sugar), both developed in-house, formulated without KCl, Stevia or metallic off-notes. Pilot-validated in dairy, bakery, ready meals and beverages. We share full reformulation panels under NDA. See the Sensalt & Sensugar page for the technical detail.
How does Uren handle sourcing and sustainability?
We dual-source the high-risk botanical inputs (citrus oils, vanilla, cocoa, coffee), publish annual carbon disclosures and run a Sedex and Ecovadis programme across the supplier base. Where origin matters to the brand story, we offer single-estate sourcing for an agreed list of flavours.
What's the UK supply lead time?
Standard portfolio items ship from UK stock within 5 to 7 working days. Made-to-order liquids and pastes typically run 2 to 3 weeks from PO; powders 3 to 4 weeks. We hold buffer stock on the 30 highest-volume SKUs and offer call-off arrangements for repeat business.
How do I get started with Uren?
Send a brief through the form at the bottom of this page or email Georgie.English@uren.com. Tell us the application, target sensory profile, format if you know it, and any regulatory or label constraints. A flavourist replies within one working day to confirm next steps and ship the first sample.
